Little & Big Cottonwood Canyons: Alta top lot, up Grizzly Gulch to Davenport. North facing West Bowl shoulder to my cabin.
We got started dawn patrol style. Couldnt see a thing till about half way up Grizzly when we got our first look at the ridge. Can you see Pyramid Gap?
Confused.
Clouds rolled in again… still keepin my eye on the prize.
Gained the ridge and the heavens opened up.
Got the shot of Tyler gettin the shot.
And the sun dogs came out too.
Patsy Marley lookin good with Mt. Wolverine to the left.
Onward…
Dipped down off the ridge and gotta look at the target. The east – northeast facing bowl looked good but after saturday, that aspect got cooked. After checkin the snow, the better lines were on the north facing shady slopes. A little shorter than the top shot but it was deep pow vs. dust on crust.
One last look down LCC before the drop into BCC. Our car is down there somewhere.
Lynyrd Skynyrd!!
Lil TB pillow shifty.
I had so much fun, i went back up and did another line. The pow couldnt have been any better.
Next comes the 3 mile jedi tree run to my cabin.
After some high speed shred action, we hit the flats at the bottom of the old mining road and Silver Fork trailhead.
Down the neighbor’s stairs and home again.
Observation:
The only instabilities noted were a couple small wind pockets on the upper south facing ridgelines running very short distances on the sun crust about 3-5 inches down. North facing slopes had a grainy facet layer 4 inches or so up from the ground. Nothin capable of packing a punch unless windloaded with the next storm.

Sweet photos Zach, your portfolio is on key! I might be contacting you to see if you would be interested in having your work published, it would put some extra cash in your pocket. It’s nice to have west bowl in your back yard, huh. Safe Travels.
