Big Cottonwood Canyon: S Curve, up Broads Fork to the second meadow, up Bonkers to Storm Mountain and down Stairs Gulch

Elevations: 5,500′ – 10,450′

Stairs Gulch in late April of last season. Definitely one of the King sized lines in the Wasatch. Theres such a difference in elevation that the snow will stay up top year-round on some years.

Toppa the mornin to ya. Rented a splitboard from the ORP at school and went out with Dan the Man and Mark. My new Venture split is on the way but i’ve been outta the skin track groove for too long.

Got to the second meadow and the weather didnt look so hot.

So we headed up Bonkers.

Stayed clear of the avy debris. Thats a big one.

And up.

Watch out for gaping holes in the earth.

Too late.

Gotta look into our line. For those of you who know the canyon, 5,000 feet below my feet is Silent Rock. Pretty stoked at this point.

And so was Dan. Watch your step….

It’s a long way down.

Got a good look at the place I snapped my Rome splitboard. Kessler West and Northwest Couloir from last week.

Best bro photo ever!

Here’s a look at the peak this summer.

No shortage of rocks. Is that a method or a tina? I dunnoo Dan.

The whole place is a big terrain park.

And more chute.

Usually, the scary part isnt at the end. We came upon this MASSIVE avalanche at the bottom. This isnt your normal soft slab. Most likely a full depth glide slide from the gigantic rock walls lining the gulch that carved out a bobsled run down the couloir

Absolutely nuts. They would be finding pieces of you for months. Good thing it already popped!
