Big Cottonwood Canyon: Up Argenta to the Kessler summit ridge, west to the Naval, down the upper chutes, back up to the north facing bowls, out to the finger couloirs and down to the highway.
On the ridge lookin back down the skin track. You can see where the 98 heli bomb triggered slide took out all the trees. It covered the road in 60 feet of snow and lumber.
Traversed out to the chutes…. not exactly sure where the entrance was.
Found it….or so i thought. Hopefully it doesnt cliff out
Sure enough. All exits guarded by 10-30 foot cliffs. We ended up riding 3 different chutes by connecting each one after the other cliffed out.
Got to the bottom, skinned up and realized we were way off.
A better look. We meant to do that straight shot from the top. Instead we went lookers left and linked up those 3 cliffy shots. Confusing but still premium pow shredding.
On top of the next ridge and down the goods.
After skinning through some mystical trees, we stopped here to drop…. hoping we would end up in the right chutes.
All of a sudden, it opened up and looked like a clear shot to the road.
We ripped down the edge of this cliff band and had Jeremy Jones style riding to the road. Definitely the best powder you can imagine.
Today was truly an adventure with uncertainty and indecision. We didnt do a single line on purpose but everything was downright awesome. And finally, no backcountry mission is complete without falling into the creek and getting completely soaked….so thats what I did.
