Big Cottonwood Canyon: Spruces campground to Tom Foolery, to Reynolds summit, down the east face, up Tom’s and down the east shot to the road.
So the day started off with an attempt at the Argenta slide path with Mark. It’s my first day on my new split and I’m retarded and setup my climbing bars backwards. It ended up being the most horrific skinning experience and I had no tool to switch it up so I bailed half way up.
Good thing Robin, The Infidel, The Apprentice and Tyler were down for a later tour up Mill D. This snow cat made things nice and easy for the approach.
Kept it goin up to the Dog Lake split.
And I decided to take a break for a gap to pillow smasher.
Its gunna be deep!
The east face of Reynolds is extremely avy prone so it was crucial to get some pit data before moving on. The finger test showed that the snowpack was right side up and almost no wind effect. Perfect fluff sitting on top of well bonded dense layers.
No shearing with the compression test and results proved that a 6-8 inch sluff would be our biggest problem.
Feelin pretty confident about conditions, we headed for the summit.
Divin into perfect 5% blower Utah pow.
First line on the new Venture Divide…. sooo smooth.
Skins on and a quick cllimb back to the ridge.
The Infidel broke trail for us. He is my dad’s age and was busting out ahead of us the whole way up.
Thru the aspens.
And across the north shot.
Topped out by the weather station.
And ripped down east Tom’s back to our up track. It doesnt look like much from the top but its definitely one of the funnest lines in Mill D. Just gotta shred it to believe it.
The snow couldnt have been any better and no signs of instability. Just another flawless pow day in the Wasatch.

Niiiice – good to see the Pit testing on your TR; gives us newbies an idea that pit testing is crucial to a safe, enjoyable POW day!
Many thanks
Have a great one
