Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons: Town of Alta to Cardiff pass, down the Eyebrow and out Reynolds flat to the BCC road.
Elevations: 7,200 – 10,420
Leaving the Alta lot with Mark, I forgot my headlamp but it wasnt long before the first light hit the snow.
The perks of wakin up early.
The Pfeifferhorn, Thunder & Lightning Ridge with Coalpit to the right.
On the ridge lookin back towards the car.
Turned around and saw The Wizards tracks on High Ivory.
A few more steps and Superior’s south and northeast face came into view. Suicide chute on the left had a coupla tracks.
Upper Cardiff & Cardiac Ridge. A clean slate besides Bob and friends.
On top of the Eyebrow.
Lookin down our line. Next stop, BCC road at the end of the drainage.
We decided the snow on the north face would be better than on the sunny east to the left. While scopin out the area, none other than Dan The Man showed up on the ridge. Guess he wanted some pow action too.
I was right.
Pushing the limits of modern snowboarding. Super stylish Tina bout 60 feet.
Stoked.
Strapped back in and took the 3 mile gully powdah run down to the road. Hitch hiked down to my car at the mouth and got some Chipotle. Not bad for flavor country.
~ Observation ~
Snow was mostly stable with little wind pockets here and there and easily triggered sluffs on the steeps. There was plenty of facets on the north aspects and the new fluff ran on the sun/rime crust. Not enough snow on top to collapse the weak layer tho. Loading during future storms and wind will definitely make things a bit dodgy out there.
